Jim Jones Wants Fans To Feast On New Mixtape

‘I picked, like, eight songs, and I’ve strung ‘em along like movies,’ Capo tells Mixtape Daily of project’s upcoming videos.
By Rob Markman

Main Pick

Headliner: Jim Jones

Representing: Harlem, New York

Mixtape: Vampire Life 2: Feast (The Last Supper)

Real Spit: Don’t let Jim Jones‘ chiseled physique fool you, the Harlem hustler loves to eat.

A true hustler in every sense of the word, the Dipset capo went from a background player to the star of his team, directing videos, running labels and then jumping to the forefront as a rapper. And his new mixtape, Vampire Life 2: Feast, is a culmination of all of his respective hustles.

“I’ve been working on the mixtape called the F.E.A.S.T.; [it stands for] ‘family eatin’ and stayin’ true,’ ” Jones recently told Mixtape Daily. “We’ve got a dope group of individuals. Some you’ve seen before, some new faces.”

Jones isn’t stopping with music either. He plans to release a number of cinematic music videos for Feast.

“I picked, like, eight songs, and I’ve strung ‘em along like movies,” he explained, “Something good for people to look at. I haven’t seen something like that in a minute. I think it’ll be very interesting.”

It’s all very fitting because the mixtape is cinematic from the start. On “F.E.A.S.T. Prelude,” Jim brags about his money-making ventures over a dramatic backdrop, setting the listener up for what they’re about to hear. “60 Rackz” is as rich as the title suggests. Over a bouncy synth track, Jimmy and newcomer T.W.O. spend cash with reckless abandon. “I got my top back when I lean, got that in my genes/ Can’t believe I put 60 racks in the poc-ket of my jeans,” Jones raps of the $60,000 cash that he keeps on hand.

Fifteen of the 17 tracks on the tape feature guest rappers, but Jimmy doesn’t use them as a crutch. For the most part, Feast introduces us to a new cast of characters, including T.W.O. and Ryder. Sen City and Mel Matrix make appearances as well, but it’s clear that Vampire Life 2 is strictly a family affair.

Capo continues to flaunt his riches alongside Trav on “Show Off” and then pledges allegiance to the hustle on “Sleep When You’re Dead.” Lyrically, the mixtape doesn’t vary much, but musically it’s rich. “Forgive,” with lush its instrumentation, allows Jimmy to deliver one of his more introspective rhymes. “The coke so high it’s hard to come up/ Tryin’ hard to make it home before God let the sun up,” he spits about the downside of his former street hustles.

Jim Jones is a hustler at heart, but rather than keep all of the spoils to himself on Feast, he splits the pie with a number rap newcomers.

One Direction Offer A Lesson In British Slang

In preparation for U.S. tour, fans might want to learn ‘bird’ and ‘sithee.’

One Direction will soon be embarking on their first-ever U.S. headlining tour. The British imports will take their mop-top, sunny pop tunes all across our great land.

Before they hit the road, MTV News caught up with the fivesome in New York City, where they performed on “Saturday Night Live.” The guys revealed some key British slang terms American girls might want to learn to impress them.

To get you in-the-know before your next One Direction concert, the guys broke down key phrases to use in conversation: “Trousers” are pants, per the guys, and a “jumper” is a sweater, and therefore possibly a good thing to wear with trousers. Louis Tomlinson said “fit” is a key word to describe an attractive person, explaining, “If a girl’s fit, she’s hot.” One Directioners might use “fit” to describe the “blokes” in 1D: “He’s a nice bloke,” Liam Payne said of the term for a guy. On the other end of the spectrum, Harry Styles let us in on a word for a special lady and romantic interest. “Quite slangy,” Harry explained, “but if someone was your girlfriend, you’d be like, ‘That’s my bird.’ ”

And, finally, “sithee” means “see ya” or “goodbye.” That will be perhaps the hardest thing a Directioner will say to one of the guys if they should meet them during their outing this year.

The tour will kick off May 24 in Fairfax, Virginia, as part of a North American tour set to wrap up July 1 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with stops along the way including Chicago, New York, Atlanta and Las Vegas. They are also set to take the stage at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden on December 3.

The guys’ debut album, Up All Night, which features their lead single, “What Makes You Beautiful,” is out now.

Madonna “MDNA” Album Sales: Oye

Madonna’s new album MDNA has sort of crashed and burned, posting nowhere close to the kind of sales figures one would expect from the Queen of Pop.

The record sold 359,000 copies when it debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts, but has since plummeted to 46,000 copies in its second week of release.

While many acts would be grateful to sell 400,000-plus units, it’s a letdown for one of the all-time greats, not to mention a record-setting dropoff.

Is she the Immaterial Girl?

Interestingly, in its first week of release, her manager Guy Oseary said of MDNA:

“People are really digging it. We feel good about the album. It’s her 12th album and the same story she had 30 years ago. That’s an amazing accomplishment.”

Some critics agree that it’s the same story as 30 years ago. They just don’t see it as a big selling point for Madonna. Said the Los Angeles Times:

MDNA more than anything sounds like an album made by someone who lost touch with the desires of today’s music… the Madonna of today has lost the art of surprise.”

Ouch.

‘Dancing With The Stars’: Donald Driver Rules Rock Week

Melissa Gilbert is taken to hospital after injuring herself during performance.

For the fourth week of this season of “Dancing With the Stars,” the celebrities rocked it out.

Glam rock-star style was everywhere — bedazzled outfits, eyeliner galore, tight leather and familiar rock tunes were all over the ballroom on Monday night’s telecast.

The night’s top scorer was NFL superstar Donald Driver, who danced away with 27 points out of 30, impressing judges with his shirtless dance routine.

Here’s how the others fared during Rock Week:

Sherri Shepherd and Val Chmerkovskiy The TV talk-show co-host did the tango. Judges thought that despite a few issues with her feet, she did a decent job. Judge Bruno Tonioli said she needed to be sharper, and Carrie Ann Inaba told her, “It was good, but I think what was lacking was your normal exuberance.” 21/30

Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas Normally, the opera singer hangs right at the top of the leader board. This week, judges thought that her paso doble was unrefined. Head judge Len Goodman said that her performance “failed to deliver.” Tonioli said she was missing definition but that she set loose “a whirlwind of fury.” 24/30

Jaleel White and Kym Johnson The actor danced the tango to the Rolling Stones hit “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” and he failed to impress judges as he did the first week. Goodman said that White needed to attack the dance more. Inaba said it was “funky and weird.” 22/30

Melissa Gilbert and Maks Chmerkovskiy Her score didn’t reflect it, but judges liked her bad-girl take with her paso doble routine. Tonioli said her sexy pose was “hot-blooded,” and Inaba said it was her best showing yet. She apparently slipped at one point during the dance — the TV audience didn’t notice — but before the end of the show, host Tom Bergeron announced that she had injured herself and was taken to the hospital. 22/30

Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd Driver was the dancing king of the night. The wide receiver’s paso doble was soundtracked to Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze,” and judges found it to be sexy (he danced shirtless) and raunchy — all good things. 27/30

Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus The soul legend danced to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and judges were less than impressed. She landed in the bottom of the leader board for her tango. Judges said that it didn’t quite come together for her, but Inaba said that it was “by far your most ambitious routine.” 20/30

William Levy and Cheryl Burke Judges didn’t care too much for the hot Latin actor’s jive, but their disdain could barely be heard over the audience screams. Inaba told him he needed to work on staying focused, but added, “You have something special.” 22/30

Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower The Disney star impressed judges with his Viennese waltz, and Inaba said that it was “cute, like watching the climax of a Disney movie.” 26/30

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough The TV journalist danced through the pain — she has stress fractures in her feet, and said in her rehearsal segment, “My feet have been killing me and I’m afraid something’s really wrong” — but she tangoed anyway, and judges loved what they saw. Inaba applauded the chemistry the two have together. 26/30

Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff The pop singer rounded out the last of the celebrity routines, dancing the tango, and once again, judges didn’t care too much for what he turned in. Tonioli said it was “a little messy in the corner.” 23/30
